Sara Horowitz

Sara Horowitz

Founder & Executive Director Sara Horowitz is the founder and Executive Director of Freelancers Union, and an innovator for tomorrow's workforce. Sara has been widely recognized for her entrepreneurial efforts to build a new support system for independent workers, including creating and running a social-purpose insurance company to serve Freelancers Union members. Sara was recognized as one of Forbes' Top 30 Social Entrepreneurs in 2011, Top 25 Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs by Businessweek in 2011, "25 People to Watch" by Crain's New York in 2010, 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow at the 2002 World Economic Forum, Esquire Magazine's 50 Best and Brightest in 2002, and she received a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant" in 1999. Before founding Freelancers Union, Sara was a private practice labor attorney and union organizer with 1199, the National Health and Human Service Employees Union. She has a master's degree from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, a law degree cum laude from the SUNY Buffalo Law School, and a B.S. from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.



Trisala Chandaria

Trisala Chandaria

Trisala Chandaria is the co-founder of Temboo, a cloud-computing company committed to demystifying information technology and liberating enterprise-level data-management toys from corporate clutches so that everybody can play. Prior to Temboo, she studied political science at Harvard and started a consulting firm for private equity and venture capital firms in Europe. Her passions include disruptive networks, entrepreneurship, and, via Temboo, banishing all complexity from IT software and services forever. She grew up in Switzerland, so she has a thing for chocolate, too.

Charles Heckscher

Charles Heckscher

Charles Heckscher is a Professor at Rutgers University and Director of the Center for Workplace Transformation. His research focuses on organization change and the changing nature of employee representation. He has also worked as a practitioner and consultant on processes of organizational development, primarily in the telecommunications industry. Before coming to Rutgers he worked for the Communications Workers' union and taught Human Resources Management at the Harvard Business School. His books include The New Unionism, White-Collar Blues, Agents of Change, and The Collaborative Enterprise.

Andrew Kassoy

Andrew Kassoy

Andrew Kassoy is Co-Founder of B Corporation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of private enterprise for public benefit. This sector is comprised of a new type of corporation–the B Corporation–which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders. Previously, Andrew spent 16 years in the private equity business, most recently at MSD Capital, the $12 billion investment vehicle for Michael Dell. Before MSD, Andrew was Managing Director in Credit Suisse First Boston's Private Equity Department, a founding Partner of DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners, and President of its international business. He is a Board Member of Echoing Green, an Advisory Board member of Wall St. Without Walls, and an advisor to Civic Builders. Andrew graduated with Distinction from Stanford University where he was a Truman Scholar and winner of the President's Award. He is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and has been active in Colorado politics and as a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Hanan Kolko

Hanan Kolko

Hanan Kolko is a union side labor and employee benefits lawyer, and a Shareholder and Director at the law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein. He represents clients before federal and state courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the New York State Public Employment Relations Board, and in arbitrations and negotiations. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Freelancers Union since 2001 and as chairperson of the Freelancers Union Board since 2005. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and received a B.S. from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Ohad Folman

Ohad Folman

Ohad Folman is the former founding Chief Information Officer for Freelancers Insurance Company and founding Chief Technology Officer of Freelancers Union. He has lived and worked in Israel, the United States, Africa, and France, with experience ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies such as BabyFirst TV and VIACOM/MTV Networks. In 2004, Ohad initiated Ghana's first government subsidized open-source certification program for software engineers. Ohad holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the City University of New York, a Master in Interactive Communications from New York University (ITP), and Master of Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Joseph Caserto

Joseph Caserto (Member Representative)

Joseph Caserto is an award-winning freelance design professional, educator, and consultant, whose principal concentration as a graphic artist is in publication design. As independent art director and designer, his clients include BusinessWeek, MarieClaire, Parents, TV Guide, and ibe. Prior to becoming independent, he held staff positions at G+J USA Publishing, which has since been acquired by Meredith Corporation, and Time Inc. Joe is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU, and was formerly an Adjunct Lecturer at The City College of New York. He is also an active volunteer and member of the Society of Publication Designers, and is a member of AIGA and the Graphic Artists Guild.
