As Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Sheldon Silver has forged a member-driven institution with the commitment and vision to meet the challenges of the new millennium, with an eye to increasing public participation and making government even more accessible to the people of New York State.
In 1976, Speaker Silver was elected to the Assembly, representing the 62nd Assembly District, and was elected Speaker in 1994. He continues to re-affirm the Assembly's role as a guardian of New York's middle class and working families.
Since Freelancers Union's inception over 15 years ago, Speaker Silver has been its greatest champion. Thanks to his support of the Portable Benefits Network and Freelancers Insurance Company, independent workers in New York can access affordable health insurance that they can take with them from job to job. Speaker Silver also shepherded the historic Freelancer Payment Protection Act through the Assembly in 2011, and his continued leadership has positioned New York as a pioneer of the workforce of tomorrow.
Born in the Lower East Side, Speaker Silver is a graduate of Yeshiva University and Brooklyn Law School. Speaker Silver and his wife Rosa reside on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The Silvers have four children and numerous grandchildren.

Campbell McKellar is the Founder & CEO of Loosecubes, a global workspace sharing community and resource for today’s workforce.
In 2009, while working remotely for a private commercial real estate owner/operator in New York City, McKellar became aware of the growing need for affordable productive workspace for mobile workers. She realized there were a lot of other people just like her—independents, entrepreneurs, and business travelers—freed by technology to work anywhere, but lacking a great place to work. The result was Loosecubes, and today, it helps connect professionals with spare desks to other professionals who need workspace around the world.
McKellar is a graduate of Princeton University and Stanford Graduate School of Business, as well as a former real estate investment banker with Goldman Sachs. She is the descendent of a long line of teachers and is always happy to provide others with a little advice (solicited or not).
