Cold Calling Is the Brussels Sprouts of Marketing

Done wrong, cold calling is every bit as loathsome as the vegetable we all grew up hating. But just as with the humble sprout, if you approach it the right way, not only will you enjoy the benefits to your business from reaching out to total strangers, you'll actually come to enjoy the process itself.

Join Freelancers Union, Ilise Benun and Colleen Wainwright—two marketing pros with very different styles when it comes to cold calling (and just about everything else)—as they present a lively examination of how to make this invaluable tool work for you via stories, role-playing, and actionable information.

Topics will include:
• How to implement a cold calling plan step by step
• The preparation process
• Making cold calling work with your own style
• How to find people worth calling
• What to say when you get on the phone
• How to leave a great voicemail
• Scripts and tools
• The all-important follow-up process

Want a preview? Listen to an audio tidbit. A new tidbit will be added each Monday leading up to the online seminar.
Listen to tidbit #1 now - "Should you leave a voicemail?"

Listen to tidbit #2 now - "How ready is ready?"

Listen to tidbit #3 now - "What is realistic to expect?"

Ilise Benun speaks about marketing throughout North America and is the author of several books, including The Designer’s Guide to Marketing and Pricing (HOW Design Books, 2008), Stop Pushing Me Around: A Workplace Guide for the Timid, Shy and Less Assertive (Career Press, 2006), and The Art of Self Promotion (Marketing Mentor Press, 2007). She is the co-founder of Marketing Mentor and works closely with freelancers to grow their businesses. She has been featured in national newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Toronto Globe and Mail, Inc. Magazine, Essence, and Working Woman.

Colleen Wainwright is an L.A.-based writer-speaker-consultant (and erstwhile designer) who started calling herself "the communicatrix" when she hit three hyphens. In her previous life as a full-timer, she wrote ads for Y&R New York, DDB Chicago, and the now-defunct Bayer Bess Vanderwarker in Chicago, although it was not until she became a freelancer that she scored the ultimate coup—writing a Wheaties campaign for Michael Jordan, which is reason enough for quitting your day job.
