1. Sound off with the Freelancers Union 2008 Survey!
Freelancers Union’s 2008 Survey
Each year, we give independent workers the chance to speak their minds about issues affecting the independent workforce. This year, we want to hear about your experiences in the current economic climate and what you think about some institutions that deliver health insurance and retirement benefits. We’re excited to hear what you have to say, and your responses help us enhance our advocacy campaigns with meaningful statistics that tell a compelling story - yours.
So please help out (and tell your friends) by taking a few minutes to Sound Off!
2. Register now for Freelancers U October seminars
Freelancers are all across the country, so we decided Freelancers U should be, too. That’s why we offer live, monthly online seminars. Join Freelancers U and Jennifer Shaheen for our next online seminar on October 7, where you’ll learn how to “Master Web and E-Commerce Marketing.”
For those in the New York area, we’re offering a number of in-person seminars as well.
When the economy slows down, it’s time to ramp up your marketing: there may be no better time for freelancers to jump in and fill the gaps that open up. Join Freelancers U and Ilise Benun for “Marketing in an Economic Downturn” on October 2, where you’ll find out exactly how to adapt to a slow economy by building on existing relationships and cultivating new clients and opportunities.
More structured than a networking mixer, more comfortable than speed networking, and more hands-on than your typical seminar, “The Ins and Outs of Networking to Grow Your Business” teaches you how to apply the skills of a successful networker. Join Freelancers U and Liz Lynch for this October 14 seminar.
If you want to receive communications about these seminars and other events, make sure you’re subscribed to the Events email list. Here’s how: sign in at www.freelancersunion.org, click on Subscriptions in the “Welcome Back” box in the upper right of the screen, and make sure you have a “yes” next to event notifications.
3. Maker Faire Austin - 25 pairs of free passes
Freelancers Union is co-sponsoring Maker Faire in Austin, which will take place October 18-19. The event celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects, and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. The first 25 members to fill out this form will receive a pair of free guest passes.
4. Four new discounts and a new look for our discounts page
Freelancers Union members have access to new discounts (and if you’re getting this e-newsletter, you’re a member!).
Our redesigned discounts page has a new Workspace section, featuring two new discounts to members. Receive 15% off all first year memberships at Nutopia, which offers you an alternative to your home office in addition to professional meeting space for clients and colleagues. If you’re in the Philadelphia area, check out The Office, where you can receive 50% off monthly membership. The Office features a wifi-enabled community workspace, a private conference room, and a full-featured break room with interim work areas.
Receive 25% off monthly fees from proofHQ, a web-based online proofing tool that lets freelancers upload work, share it with clients, and have clients review, proof, and approve collaboratively online—a better solution than sending work using email and attachments.
New York Open Center, a nonprofit holistic learning center offering evening events, classes, workshops, and advanced trainings in such areas as yoga and holistic health, is offering a 10% discount off ongoing classes and full-day workshops.
To learn more about these corporate discounts and all of the others we offer, check out our newly revamped discounts page.
