1. Register now: Freelancers U November tax seminars in November
Freelancers U and tax expert Howard Samuels are presenting these upcoming online and in-person tax seminars:
Do you know which federal tax deductions you’re entitled to? Should you count your home office as a deduction? How do you calculate a quarterly tax payment? Join us on November 5 for our next live, online seminar, “Tax Deductions and Quarterly Payments: Everything You Need to Know," to find out the answers to these questions and many more.
On November 12, join us in New York for our next in-person seminar, “Preparing Your Federal Tax Return: Form 1040 and Schedule C Step-by-Step.” Check out this seminar whether you prepare your own taxes and want to make sure you’re doing it properly or you want to understand what your accountant is talking about when the two of you sit down to review your taxes.
2. Survey results: What members want in a credit union
A lot of Freelancers Union members have expressed an interest in access to a credit union, so earlier this month, we put out a survey to find out more. Over 1,600 members took the credit union survey. The most important banking features for respondents included: online banking, no-fee withdrawals at ATMs, and access to low-cost checking accounts and high-interest savings vehicles. We're working now to find the best option for Freelancers Union members.
Didn't get the survey? Make sure you're subscribed to the Products & Services email list in your account preferences to receive surveys and other announcements.
3. First Freelancers Union industry-specific networking event
All you New Yorkers in the film and television industry should check out our very first industry-specific networking event. Join fellow filmmakers, actors, producers, directors, animators, writers, editors, and casting professionals for this November 19 event in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
4. New animated short in theaters: Squeaky Wheel
At independent cinemas in New York, Washington, and L.A., you can now catch “Squeaky Wheel” before the feature. It’s our new animated short about a little wheel that decides to take down the machine and come up with a better way of doing things. (Sounds like about 88,000 people we know.) You can watch it on YouTube.
5. Five new discounts: Custom printing, workspace, dining out, and more
