Dear member,

I am pleased to announce one of Freelancers Union’s most exciting, important, and meaningful efforts to date. Freelancers Union is launching Freelancers Insurance Company, Inc. (FIC) in New York State, which will change the way we offer health insurance—we believe for the better.

While the formation of FIC directly affects only those members enrolled in or eligible for health insurance in New York State, it’s a milestone for the organization as a whole. Though we do not have immediate plans to expand coverage to other states, we believe our program may point the way to a national model for health insurance coverage.

As part of our continued mission to create a safety net for independent workers, FIC is a new program for health insurance coverage—one created exclusively to meet the serious concerns that our members and most Americans have about the cost, quality, and reliability of traditional health insurance. FIC is owned 100% by Freelancers Union, and its sole mission is to provide flexible and dependable consumer-oriented options for health care coverage. It is an independent company created to meet the needs of independent workers, with plans tailored to fit freelancers’ health care needs more closely than traditional plans typically allow. We also believe that through FIC, we will be better able than commercial insurers to control the cost of coverage to our members.

I invite you to learn more by visiting a dedicated page about FIC on our website, where you can also view a video message from me. You may also want to visit the Freelancers Insurance Company website.

Best,

Sara Horowitz
