Faces of Freelance

A storytelling project from Freelancers Hub

Faces of Freelance is all about stories

More than one-third of New York City's workforce is freelancing, contributing more than $30 billion annually to this city's economy. Reflecting the incredibly diverse makeup of the city itself, freelancers work in each major industry, and represent wide-ranging backgrounds. For many, freelancing provides an opportunity for autonomy, flexibility, and a chance to pursue a passion.

Freelancers Hub has built a thriving community of freelancers from across the city who come together to learn, network, and grow their businesses. We created Faces of Freelance to share the unique perspectives of our members and their paths through freelancing.

Meet the freelancers

Faces of Freelance is about shining a light on diverse, talented freelancers and highlighting their successes and experiences in freelancing.
"Right now, I feel like the challenges are more about scaling than 'Can I do this?' I'm a shape-shifter, I'm constantly changing."
"Knowing what my monetary value is was always a balance."
"Freelance life will teach you maturity and responsibility, because you have to show up for you."
"People don't realize how versatile you have to be to run your own business -- which is you and your brand."
Freelancers Hub has helped freelancers by providing free resources, including coworking, workshops, and educational courses.
"There’s something about having a written plan that solidifies it in my mind and the universe. I still believe in using a pen and paper."
"I truly believe, despite who you are or where you come from, if you have a passion, you'll definitely make it."
"The hardest thing in the world to do is just be yourself. But once you get the hang of it, it flows. Trust yourself. Don’t work without a contract, and make a binding contract with yourself to always do your best."
"The difference between a successful business and one that's not successful is having the right information in the right moments so that you can make informed decisions."
