What industries?

Hi All!
What are good industries to freelance?
Starting a pool here... What industries have you guys been working on?

  • "Good industries to freelance" is subjective. Each of us is different and therefore has our own definition of "good." Some may be looking for the highest income. Others want clients who are easiest to work with. Others look for industries that share their interests.

Good clients for me share my interests. I tend to target meaningful things like the environment, wholesome food, faith, humanity, etc. Unfortunately these are usually non-profit, committee-based organizations, which means they're harder to work with and I don't profit much.

I need to counter this by going up the ladder to the industries sell products to these organizations. For example, CSA farmers use expensive equipment like rototillers and tractors. I market myself to equipment companies for gigs that will pay the bills and afford me to work with my interest groups.

  • I am a virtual assistant serving mostly small business owners and offering a variety of services, mainly social media and Microsoft Office

  • If giving advice, I would say work in one that you have an interest in, then it may not seem like work, and the ideas and contacts will come more naturally! Your passion will show if it is an industry/subject matter you truly enjoy.

  • Ilise Benum has some good podcasts on choosing a niche: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/marketing-m... ; She also has a hive here in FU about finding your focus, Ilise is an AMAZING resource, check her out! https://www.freelancersunion.org/hives/find-you...
